CABDR-North Alternate

A Better Way Through Section 6

The Northern California Backcountry Discovery Route (CABDR-North) passes through some spectacular terrain -- but the standard Section 6 routing runs west of Portola, bypassing some of the best riding in the region around Beckwourth Peak and the Smith Peak Lookout.

This alternate keeps you on gravel and forest roads through the heart of the Lost Sierra, with a stop in Portola for resupply and the option to ride through or stay the night at High Camp.

High Camp makes an ideal overnight stop on this route -- hot shower, real bed, and you're back on the trail the next morning.

What the Alternate Adds

• Beckwourth Peak and the singletrack surrounding High Camp
• The town of Portola for resupply and a meal
• Smith Peak Lookout with panoramic views of the Lost Sierra
• Quiet forest roads and gravel through Plumas National Forest
