An accessible waterfall trail typically flowing May through June, suitable for families and limited-ability hikers.

Natural hot springs with day-use and evening soak passes. Reservation required, Thursday through Sunday.

A scenic swimming pond in the center of Graeagle village. Popular for swimming, paddleboarding, and picnicking.

A classic summer spot for swimming and tubing. The Middle Fork runs through the canyon below Portola with calm sections perfect for a lazy float.

Hike or bike to an active fire lookout at 7,340 feet with sweeping views of Mohawk Valley, Beckwourth Peak, Sierra Valley, Sierra Buttes, and Mt. Lassen on a clear day. A great one for adventurous guests.

One of the most dramatic hikes in the Sierra Nevada. A fire lookout staircase at the summit, with Upper and Lower Sardine Lakes spread out below. Near Sierra City.

Smith Peak 15 min

The longest trail near Portola at 8.5 miles with 1,814 feet of elevation gain. Secluded and quiet; a good option for guests who want to earn their views.

A popular out-and-back right in town, good in almost any season. Great for guests who want something quick and manageable with solid views.

The PCT passes through this stretch of the Sierra Nevada with stunning mountain views, crystal-clear lakes, and striking rock formations. Guests can pick up the trail near Sierra City for a day section without committing to a thru-hike.
