Beckwourth Peak Trail – South Side

  • A new trail, created by the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship. This is currently a beautiful out-and-back with great views. The SBTS plans to finish the loop around the moutain in 2025.
  • Trailhead: start at High Camp

Beckwourth Peak – The Top

  • Yes, you can hike all the way to the top for the mountain! Fit hikers should plan on 4 to 5 hours for the out-and-back. Bring plenty of water. The lower section uses the Beckwourth Peak Trail. The final section uses a dirt service road.
  • Trailhead: start at High Camp

Portola Riverwalk Trail

  • Flat, paved trail that follows the river in town. There is also a disc golf course along the trail.

Little Jamison Falls

  • A 2 mile out-and-back to a hidden waterfall, which runs year-round. If you continue a short distance up the trail, you’ll reach Grass Lake.
  • 32 mins to trailhead

Calpine Fire Lookout

  • Depending on weather, you can likely drive a lot of the way to this picturesque lookout. Follow Calpine Road to the end or park at the turnout if the road is closed for the winter.

Mills Peak Trail

  • This seven mile trail takes off from the Mills Peak Lookout and heads downhill through a predominately conifer forest, offering some beautiful views
