What is the Overnighter?
It’s two days of bikepacking in the Lost Sierra. You’ll stay at Beckwourth Peak High Camp, an off-grid glampsite on Beckwourth Peak (with hot showers and bathrooms) and share meals, activities and campfires with other riders. Tent camping (included) and glamping (extra) options are available.
What are the routes?
Routes will be announced in April
- Day 1: Ride from Truckee or the Sierra Valley to Beckwourth Peak High Camp (25 to 65-mile options)
- Day 2: Ride back to your starting location (retrace or take an alternative route)
What’s the itinerary?
Saturday: Ride to Beckwourth Peak High Camp. Join a group or ride at your own pace. Set up camp and take a hot shower. Dinner will be provided and the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship and Bikepacking Roots will give short presentations. End the evening swaping stories with other riders around the campfire.
Sunday: Enjoy coffee and breakfast before packing up and riding back to your starting point.
What meals are included?
We will provide dinner on Saturday night and breakfast and coffee on Sunday morning. Vegetarian options available.
Are the rides supported?
The atmosphere will be supportive and non-competitive, with the goal of sharing bikepacking and creating a safe and inclusive opportunity to bikepack. You bring your bike, gear, food and self-sufficient riding skills and we’ll bring the community and camaraderie.
We will have group roll-outs from Truckee and the Sierra Valley to Beckwourth Peak High Camp to get to the campout. These rides are not guided, and we ask that you come ready to ride self-supported with all your own gear, food, water, and ability to navigate the route under your own power. Volunteers will also be riding and able to assist if help is needed, but it is not their responsibility to lead the ride. Additional details and packing list will be sent out after you register. We will also provide the routes if you want to ride in on your own.
What bike do I need?
The suggested routes are mostly gravel, forest roads, but they include some pavement and non-technical singletrack. The ideal “freedom machine” would be a gravel bike (45mm tires) or hard-tail mountain bike. If your bike can handle dirt roads and you can strap your stuff to it, you’ll be fine.
What’s the price?
$90 per rider
This includes camping, Saturday night dinner, Sunday morning breakfast, campfire, modern bathrooms and showers. Cabin and yurt rentals are extra.
What is the cabin or yurt rental option?
Turn up your glamping experience and rent a modern cabin or our yurt and share it with friends. All bedding and towels are included, so you can ligthen your load even more! If you decide to rent a cabin or yurt, you must still register, separately, for the overnight event.
To book a cabin or yurt, text us at 530-322-0322 and let us know which unit you’d like to book. We’ll then text you back when it’s open and ready for you to book online. First come, first serve.
Just a heads up – we may to use some of the fridge space in the rental units to store leftover food from the catered meals.
